Pentagon Flags Alibaba, Baidu, and BYD Among Firms Linked to China’s Military
The Pentagon has recommended adding Alibaba, Baidu, and BYD to a U.S. list of companies with ties to China’s military. The October 7 letter, sent to Congress ahead of the Trump-Xi trade truce, highlights eight firms meeting the legal standard for such designation. While the list carries no direct penalties, it serves as a stark warning to U.S. investors.
Other named companies include Eoptolink Technology, Hua Hong Semiconductor, and WuXi AppTec. The annual Section 1260H list, last updated in January, currently excludes these entities. The move underscores escalating tensions in U.S.-China relations, with potential Ripple effects across global markets.
